On Windows, Chrome

  1. Click the small icon just to the LEFT of the web address at the top of the window.
  2. Set Microphone to Allow, then reload the page.
  3. If it already says Allow, the block is in Windows itself: open Start, then Settings.
  4. Go to Privacy & security, then Microphone.
  5. Turn on Microphone access, and turn on Let desktop apps access your microphone.

On Mac, Chrome

On Chromebook

  2. Set Microphone to Allow, then reload the page.
  3. If it already says Allow, the block is in your Chromebook itself: click the time at the bottom-right, then the gear to open Settings.
  4. Choose Privacy and security, then Site settings, then Microphone.
  5. Make sure this site is allowed and the right microphone is chosen, then reload the page.

On iPhone, Safari

  1. Reload the page and tap Allow when Safari asks. It often asks again after a reload.
  2. If it does not ask, tap the small icon just to the LEFT of the web address. On an iPhone that bar sits at the bottom.
  3. Tap Website Settings.
  4. Set Microphone to Allow, then tap Done and reload the page.
  5. No Microphone line there? Open the Settings app, tap Safari, then scroll down to Microphone. Set it to Ask and reload this page.
  6. Is the Microphone switch greyed out? Screen Time is holding it. Open Settings, tap Screen Time, then Content & Privacy Restrictions.
  7. Tap Microphone, choose Allow Changes, then start again.

On iPad, Safari

On Opened inside another app on iPhone or iPad

  1. This page opened inside another app, which is not allowed to use the microphone.
  2. Tap the menu button and choose “Open in browser”.
  3. If there is no menu, copy this page’s link and paste it into your browser instead.
  4. Then start the exam again.
